Emily A.- Has her Masters Degree in Classical Piano Performance, University of Victoria and is teaching piano online around the country

Andy S. - Has his Masters Degree in Jazz Piano; supports himself with piano "gigs"  and with teaching

Carolyn T. ( BMus UVic) -Is now part of a small task force responsible for train safety in British Columbia

Tai W.  - Graduated from UBC and is now a chemical engineer

​Claire F. - While working as a stage manager with Pacific Opera Company in Victoria. Claire wrote, “I spent my birthday enjoying working on Bizet's Carmen with Edmonton Opera. So grateful for my piano training that has brought me these exciting work opportunities!” Now she is instrumental in everything "behind the scenes" at the Chemainus Theatre.

 Emily F. - Graduated from medical school and started her surgical residency in Edmonton in July, 2022

Jizelle B. - Taking a break this year from doing the Bachelor of Music program in Piano Performance at UVic, studying with May       Ling Kwok.  Jizelle plans to eventually become a doctor

Ginger B.-V. - Starting a science degree at UBC, one of a very few accepted to an accelerated program with a major scholarship

Bianca P. - Has entered the military with plans to become an aerospace engineer

 REGISTRATION: To be wait-listed for fall, 2024, please email or call to set up a free interview. Lessons are now in person, with the option of occasional online lessons when necessary. 


GROUP LESSONS:  A success this year: interested students in the wider community have joined our group classes (one session every three weeks), and there will likely also be some openings for young people and adults in 2024-25. Please contact me for more information.

 

​MY CONCERT: Rykie Avenant, Catharina de Beer, Emily Armour and I had a wonderful time performing our concert for 4, 6 and 8 hands at one piano: "SHOW OF HANDS" April 14, 2024, at Duncan United Church!  The audience enjoyed watching our hands up close on the big screen as we shared 88 keys among 40 fingers! Thanks so much to all who came. (See photo and comment below.)


Emily and Ann's Concert for Ukraine on May 1st, 2022 at the Tom Lee Music auditorium in Victoria raised over $2000 in donations for humanitarian aid! The proceeds went to Doctors Without Borders and Help Us Help Charity.  


The CANADA MUSIC WEEK CONCERTS in November, 2023, were are great success. This event is biannual - watch for the next ones coming up in November, 2025, when Cowichan Valley students will again share music by Canadian composers.

Recent CVMTA news: our delightful Teachers' concert titled "I PLAYED THIS BETTER AT HOME!"  was enthusiastically received as 14 Cowichan Valley music teachers performed in a variety of styles in combinations of many different instruments: voice, piano, cello, violin, harp and flute. The $750 raised in donations will be applied towards CVMTA awards, scholarships and bursaries.


 BURSARIES AVAILABLE for music study!  Deadline for applications: September 15 and January 15. Please visit the  Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Foundation  (CVPAF) website for more information, to apply, or to make a donation.


 CHEMAINUS CLASSICAL CONCERTS Recital Series - one concert each month, October through June, Sunday at 2 pm,  St. Michael's Church, Chemainus. Enjoy live concerts by master musicians. The 2024-25 brochure is now published, and Season Tickets will be available as of September 15th. More info here


 VICTORIA SYMPHONY CONCERTS are also a joy!  The 2023-24 season has wrapped up, and four marvelous concerts are planned for 2024-25. You may wish to purchase Season Tickets which will guarantee you a great seat at a reduced price for CANADIAN BRASS - coming December 6th - as well as the three other beautiful concerts.  COWICHAN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024- Our studio had many award winners, including Ashley Pepper, who was selected to represent the Cowichan Valley in Intermediate Piano at Provincials, where she took first place in the Canadian Music class ! Thanks to Chairperson Marilyn Rummel for organizing the Piano Section. Ten of my students performed and I was proud of all of them. Several students performed in the Gala Concert and two in Highlights. Congratulations to all. 


COWICHAN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2025- Information will be posted here prior to the December application deadline.


​ JUDITH McIVOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION - open to graduating seniors going on in music. The application form may be found on the CVMTA website. Applications are still being accepted for 2024. Our 2023 Winner was Lacarmia Jia, who is continuing her harp studies under Elizabeth Volpe-Bligh at UBC . Congratulations to Lacarmia, and to her teacher, Marilyn Rummel!
